LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) Basic Awareness

Welcome to the foundational training program, LPG: Basic Awareness. This essential course is the result of a powerful collaboration between the Malta Development Association (MDA) and the European Vocational Academy (EVA), aimed at significantly enhancing safety standards across various industries. LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is a widely used yet potentially hazardous substance, making foundational safety knowledge critical for all personnel working in its vicinity.

What I will learn?

The primary rationale for the LPG: Basic Awareness course is to mitigate the inherent risks associated with handling and being near Liquefied Petroleum Gas. Since LPG is a highly flammable substance stored under pressure, a basic understanding of its properties and associated hazards is crucial for preventing incidents.
The main aims are to:
• Familiarise participants with the fundamental physical and chemical properties of LPG (propane and butane) to understand its behavior.
• Identify common hazards associated with LPG, including flammability, pressure, and the risk of asphyxiation.
• Impart essential knowledge on safe handling, storage, and transportation practices, especially regarding cylinders.
• Outline the correct emergency procedures for leaks and fires to enable immediate, effective response.
• Promote adherence to basic Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and regulatory requirements in an LPG environment.

About Course

The LPG: Basic Awareness course is a concise, high-impact training session with a total duration of just 2 hours. Priced at €65, this program delivers crucial, non-technical safety knowledge about Liquefied Petroleum Gas, making it an efficient and cost-effective investment in workplace risk reduction.
The curriculum is focused on the fundamentals of LPG, including its key physical properties (like being heavier than air), its flammability characteristics, and the proper identification of storage cylinders and signage. Participants will learn to distinguish between safe practices and immediate hazards, such as the potential for asphyxiation or the risks associated with leaks and improper handling. The training heavily emphasizes emergency preparedness, outlining the basic actions to take in the event of a leak or fire, and underscoring the vital role of correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This quick-turnaround course is specifically designed for general staff and supervisors who need awareness but not technical expertise, ensuring they can contribute to a safer environment by maintaining vigilance and adhering to basic, critical safety protocols.
This program has a duration of 2 Hours, is held in Malta, and costs 65 Euros; it is delivered in multiple languages through interpreter services, which are available upon request and subject to student numbers.

Exit Awards
Upon successful completion of the course and assessment, participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance/Completion issued by the collaborating organizations, the Malta Development Association (MDA) and the European Vocational Academy (EVA). This serves as formal documentation of the basic awareness training received.
Work-based Learning
Given the short duration and ‘Basic Awareness’ focus, this course is classroom/theory-based and does not include a formal work-based learning component (apprenticeship or on-the-job training). The learning is immediately transferable to the workplace, but competence application is expected to be reinforced through the employing company’s standard operating procedures and supervision.
